Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 BMW X1- Video

Today on this 2014 BMW X1 we'll be test fitting the 23 by 47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier part number M2205. This has a carrying capacity of 450 pounds, has a mesh floor which makes it easy to clean as well as sides which are easy to clean. For the height of the actual walls themselves from the base of the carrier we're looking at about 22 inches. Now with it in this position, measuring from the bumper, we got at about 36 and a half inches to the rear of the vehicle. Our ground clearance is about 17 inches. Our closest point, this edge here is about 6 -3/4 inches. Now the exhaust is going to be on the drivers side, but this has a raised shank and it's quite a distance away from the car carrier itself so I wouldn't worry too much about heat sensitive material when you're loading that up. These walls do fold down. more

MaxxTow Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 BMW X1- Video

Today on this 2014 BMW X1, we are going to be test fitting the 48 x 21 MaxxTow Cargo Carrier, part number MT70422. This has a 500 pound carrying capacity. It is made from a sturdy aluminum and on the front and rear, we have these points here which will be the tie down points for either your bungee cords or your ratchet straps. Now measuring from the bumper to our outer edge here, we have added about 29 inches to the rear of the vehicle. From ground clearance, we at about 11 inches. For our closest point, this edge here, that's about 6 1/2 inches. Now the exhaust is going to be on the driver's side and it's going to be about 8 1/2 inches from the actual cargo carrier itself so you just want to keep that in mind with any heat sensitive material so you might want to put that over on the passenger's side. We have access to our hatch at this moment but I am going to go ahead and give you a break-over point measurement and that is going to be the point where the hatch itself would come into contact with whatever it is you are hauling. more

Stromberg Carlson Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 BMW X1- Video

Today on this 2014 BMW X1 we are going to be testing the 23x60 Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier, part number CC-100. This has a 500 pound carry capacity. It has a mesh board here, which makes it easy to clean. It has these large holes all the way around the cargo carrier, and those are going to serve as tie-down points for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. On the front side here we have these 3 holes here on either side, and those you can install either reflectors in there, or lights if you need. At the front here we have 2 on the top, and that is if all the stuff that you are hauling is going to be covering up your license plate, and you can relocate it to this area. I am going to go ahead and give you some measurements now. more

Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 BMW X1- Video

Today on this 2014 BMW X1 we're going to be test fitting the 20 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part number C18151. This has a 500 pound carrying capacity, has a mesh floor which makes it easy to clean and it also has this rail all the way around the cargo carrier itself which can serve as a tie down point for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. Now measuring from the bumper to this outer rail here we've added about 35 inches to the rear of the vehicle. Our ground clearance is going to be about 11 and a half and our closest point to this inner rail is going to be about 14 and a quarter inches. The exhaust is going to be on the passenger, or excuse me the driver's side and that's going to be about almost 17 inches to the cargo carrier. I really wouldn't worry too much about any heat sensitive material in your cargo carrier at this point. Now we can open the rear hatch with full access and no problems. However, I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick break over point measurement and that's going to be the point where the hatch may come in contact with whatever it is you're hauling. more

Today, on this 2014 BMW X1, we're going to be test fitting the 20 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part number C18150. This has a 500 pound carrying capacity and has a mesh floor on the bottom which makes it easy to clean. It also has this railing all the way around the cargo carrier which can serve as a tie-down point for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. Measuring from the bumper to our outer rail here, we've added about 30 inches to the rear of the vehicle. For our ground clearance to this edge here, we're at about 13 1/2. Our closest point, the inner rail, that's going to be about 9 inches. The exhaust on this vehicle is on the driver's side, but since it has a raised shank and it's about 11 1/2 inches from the cargo carrier, you don't have to worry too much about any heat sensitive material. If you are, you can always just move it over to the passenger side. In this position, we can open up the rear hatch with no problem. more

This has a 300 pound carrying capacity, has a mesh floor, which makes it easy to clean, and all around the border of the cargo carrier are these points here, which will serve as tie-down points for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. Measuring from the bumper to our outer edge here, we've added about 28 inches to the rear of the vehicle. Our ground clearance is going to be 14 inches, and our closest point, the inner rail here, that's going to be about 9 inches. Now, the exhaust on this vehicle is going to be on the driver's side, and that's going to be about 11 inches from the cargo carrier. Even with its raised shank, though, I would still exercise caution putting any heat sensitive material into your cargo carrier itself. We have full access to our rear hatch, however, I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick breakover point measurement. That's going to be where the hatch would come into contact with the things you're hauling. more

Today on our 2016 BMW X1, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt 20x60 Folding Cargo Carrier. This cargo carrier has a expanded metal bottom and it's made out of a square tubular design that's powder coated. It's got some nice, high sidewalls, about 5-1/2" and it's going to give you multiple places to tie your cargo down. Let's go ahead and get you some measurements. The closest point of contact's going to be about 12", overall we've added about 33" to the length of our vehicle, and our ground clearance is going to be about 10-1/2". This carrier's designed to hold 500-lbs. more
